Rafael Nadal: ATP stats reveal Spaniard BEAT Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in key area | Tennis | Sport

It was a mixed season for Nadal.

He won in the Monte-Carlo Masters, Barcelona Open, Italian Open, French Open and Canadian Open before the year ended on a sour note.

The Spaniard was set to finish the season as world No 1 until he was forced to withdraw from the Paris Masters.

There was optimism that Nadal would be fit for the season finale at the ATP World Tour finals in London.

However, the 32-year-old was again forced to pull-out, this time to undergo ankle surgery.

But after the ATP released their end of season stats, there is one reason Nadal can hold his head high.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion had the highest win percentage of any professional tennis player in 2018 with 55.4%.

Second was world No 1 Novak Djokovic, with 54.5%.

Federer was just behind in third with 54.4% having played a total of 9377 points.

Nadal’s win percentage was his second best performance in the past four seasons.

He played a total of 7728 points across 2018, winning 4281.

The Spaniard also boasted the best match-record winning percentage of Top 10 players in 2018, at 91.8% (45 wins and four defeats).

Three-time French Open winner Gustavo Kuerten was quick to praise Nadal, insisting he will bounce-back from his disappointing end to the season.

“I do not know serious Rafa’s [Nadal] injury is, but he definitely is very willing to fight for the number one,” he added.

“They [Nadal and his team] will choose his key moments in a better way.”

Nadal will be keen to start next season strongly by hitting the ground running at the Australian Open in January.
